The lines at a glance
Rates below are the published USFans figures as of September 2026. They are per kilo and change with fuel and season — the USFans fee page has the live numbers, and the agent comparison puts them next to the other agents.

Line by line
USFans Tax-Free — the default
The house line, and the right answer for most orders. It balances price, speed and customs performance, and it is the line the platform is built around.
Strengths: good customs record, solid speed-to-cost ratio, reliable tracking, available to most destinations.
Limits: 8 kg cap per parcel, slower during peak season, not offered to every country, slightly longer warehouse processing.
Use it for: first orders, and any haul between roughly 2 and 6 kg.
EMS — the reliable fallback
The postal option. More expensive per kilo, but it goes everywhere and it handles a heavier parcel.
Strengths: very reliable, 10 kg limit, worldwide coverage, decent tracking, well understood by every customs authority.
Limits: costs more than the tax-free line, slows badly around holidays, tracking can be patchy in the middle of the journey.
Use it for: destinations where the tax-free line is unavailable, larger hauls, and anywhere you value predictability over price.
DHL and FedEx — express
Premium courier service. Fast, thoroughly tracked, and thoroughly expensive.
Strengths: 5–8 day delivery, excellent tracking, professional handling, reliable to almost anywhere.
Limits: the most expensive option by a wide margin, low weight caps at 5–6 kg, more customs scrutiny, and poor value on anything heavy.
Use it for: urgent orders and small parcels of 1–3 kg where the freight cost is a small share of the total.
Sea freight — the budget option
Containerised shipping. Slow in a way that only matters if you are impatient.
Strengths: by far the cheapest per kilo, excellent safety record, handles 20 kg and up, ideal for bulk.
Limits: 30–45 days, thin tracking, limited destination coverage, weather delays.
Use it for: hauls over 10 kg, seasonal buying done months ahead, and anything where you genuinely do not care when it lands.
What a parcel actually costs
Costs scale with weight, but not linearly — the base handling charge means small parcels are disproportionately expensive per kilo.
Small parcel, 1–2 kg
One or two pairs of shoes, or a few clothing items.
| Line | Cost | |---|---| | USFans Tax-Free | $15–25 | | EMS | $20–35 | | DHL | $30–50 | | Sea freight | $12–15 |
Medium parcel, 3–5 kg
Three or four pairs, or a decent clothing haul.
| Line | Cost | |---|---| | USFans Tax-Free | $40–65 | | EMS | $55–85 | | DHL | $85–140 | | Sea freight | $25–35 |
Large parcel, 6–8 kg
A full haul with several pairs plus clothing.
| Line | Cost | |---|---| | USFans Tax-Free | $75–110 | | EMS | $110–160 | | DHL | Over the weight limit | | Sea freight | $45–60 |
Notice what that means: on a 1 kg parcel the tax-free line costs roughly $20 per kilo; at 6 kg it is closer to $14. Consolidation is not a marginal saving, it is the whole game.
By region
United States
Best: USFans Tax-Free · Time: 12–18 days · Customs risk: low · Alternative: EMS · Avoid: express couriers, which draw more scrutiny for no benefit on a normal haul.
Canada
Best: USFans Tax-Free · Time: 15–22 days · Customs risk: medium · Alternative: EMS · Note: the CAD 20 threshold is among the lowest anywhere, so declare carefully.
United Kingdom and Europe
Best: USFans Tax-Free · Time: 10–16 days · Customs risk: medium · Alternative: sea freight on large hauls · Note: splitting parcels over 2 kg is often cheaper overall once VAT thresholds are in play.
Australia
Best: EMS · Time: 10–18 days · Customs risk: high · Alternative: sea freight · Note: Australian customs inspects aggressively; keep parcels small.
Cutting the bill
Strip weight before you ship. Shoe boxes removed, retail packaging discarded, tags off, clothing vacuum packed. A four-pair order loses more than a kilo this way.
Consolidate. One parcel, one base charge, better per-kilo rate.
Use the cost estimate. Submit a trial shipment to see the real figure before you commit.
Ship off-peak. Avoid Chinese New Year, Singles' Day and the December rush.
Split heavy items out. One 3 kg ceramic piece can push an entire haul onto a more expensive tier.
Let non-urgent things go by sea. At $6–8 per kilo, sea freight is a third of the price of the tax-free line.
Safety and tracking
- Declare a plausible value — see how to declare on USFans
- Keep parcels under the line's weight cap; over-limit parcels get repacked or returned
- Avoid shipping through major Chinese holidays
- Insure anything valuable — the payout is based on the declared value
- Install the carrier's own app; it is more current than any aggregator
- Save the tracking number and the shipping receipt
- Expect silent stretches of several days; contact support after 10+ days of nothing
